SLR September 12 – Custis / W&OD

Hello Saturday Runners!

On Saturday September 12, we have a 20-miler planned on the Custis and W&OD trails. Because this is an out & back route, it will be easy to modify the distance to fit your own training plans, if you don’t have a 20 mile run scheduled for this week. The turn-around point for 20 miles is just beyond the Beltway, at mile marker 9 on the W&OD trail, but you can make this route as long or as short as you like. To reach the mid-run beverage stop, you’ll need to go at least 12 miles, since it will be about 6 miles from the start in Benjamin Banneker Park, at the side of the W&OD trail near the soccer field. I’ll be out of town this weekend, but Dylan Barlett will be filling in for me on Saturday morning.

Please note that even though it is after Labor Day, we will continue to meet at 7:00 am until further notice. I’m planning to switch back to 8:00 am sometime in early to mid October, after the weather has hopefully made a more decisive shift to cooler temperatures. When the time comes, this will be announced here in the weekly email, as well as posted on the main SLR page and the club’s Facebook/Twitter feed.

Thank you Dan Lesmez for post-run beverages, and thank you Rodney Ast for our mid-run beverage station! We are in need of post-run volunteers starting next week, and mid-run volunteers for two Saturdays in October, so take a look at our up to date schedule posted on the SLR page and let me know if you can cover either of these. As always, you can email me any dates you’d like to do mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks – all beverage expenses will be reimbursed by the club. Please volunteer; it’s your duty if you regularly participate in SLR!

Happy running!

Mike
