Saturday Long Run
The DC Road Runners Saturday Long Run is a local—and possibly also world—famous running tradition in the DMV.
Each Saturday, DC Road Runners meets at 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. in the summer months) in North Meade Street Park in Rosslyn, Virginia for a long conversational pace run. Those in the know call this run “SLR.” You are now in the know.
This run is held rain or shine. In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves), the club will occasionally change the run’s meeting time or cancel the run for safety. Otherwise, SLR will be held as planned unless announced via email and on the club’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds, as well as on this very web page.
Is SLR for Me?
Yes! All are welcome! (Though we do encourage participants to become club members.)
The SLR group is an informal one, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means “long” for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week.
If you don’t want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to the North Meade Street Park.
Specific route information and mileage options will be provided in the email and route overview post preceding each Saturday’s run.
To keep things interesting, we offer a rotation of routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out-and-back, on roads, sidewalks, trails, and more. If you run SLR, you will run the DMV.
Please consult our SLR frequently asked questions for additional information. You can also contact Anna Staats if you have additional questions.
Directions and Parking
The best address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd.
Street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street.
Pay attention to posted parking signs and parking restrictions. Arlington County enforces parking laws enthusiastically.
Do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because that parking area is for memorial use only.
At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial’s water fountain is usually on during the summer.
