National Capital 20 Miler
The National Capital 20 Miler stands alongside of the Alexandria Turkey Trot as one of DC Road Runners’ premium races, attracting elite competition from within the DMV and across the country.
The Janet Braunstein 5 Miler runs in tandem with the 20 Miler, and it is also a popular race within the DCRR membership and in the local community. The 5 Miler is named after Janet Braunstein, a longtime club member and club supporter who died in 2020. Janet was awarded the Master Runner of the Year Award in 2007 and in 2011. She is deeply missed.
Race Details
The National Capital 20 Miler is customarily held in late September or early October of each year. The race is perfectly timed to serve as a fall marathon tune-up run, and each year, runners use it to train for the Chicago, Marine Corps, and New York marathons.
The course is flat and fast, covering an out-and-back route on the C&O Towpath.
The course is fully supported with runner aid stations at approximately 2.5-mile intervals.
