Running the DMV Since 1961
Lisa Towell
Q: When did you begin running and why?
I started running in my 30’s for exercise and for the social aspect of the running community.
Q: How did you find out about DCRR and when did you join?
A neighbor of mine was a member of the club and she encouraged me to join and participate in local runs and happy hours. Thank you Deborah Margraff!
Q: What are you training for right now?
I am currently training for the Bay Ridge Half Marathon in Brooklyn, NY on 10/2/21 and the Little Rock Half Marathon on 11/21/21.
Q: What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?
The Edinburgh Half Marathon wasn’t my toughest race, but my luggage didn’t make the flight and I had to buy shoes and full running attire when I arrived in Scotland. It was very cold and raining and I was uncomfortable and wore a garbage bag and shower cap from the hotel to try to stay somewhat dry before the race start.
Q: What is the most important lesson running has taught you?
#1 lesson—if you are traveling to a race, pack your running gear in your carry on bag! #2—running has taught me to never give up and to keep pushing and focusing on the end goal.
Q: What is your proudest running moment?
My proudest running moment was finishing the MCM for the second time and last time!
Q: What is your life like outside of running?
Outside of running, I love to travel, SUP and hike locally. Earlier this year I started volunteering for the Virginia Medical Reserve Corp and have been volunteering at Arlington vaccine clinics a few times a month. I recently bought two trash grabbers on Amazon and have been picking up trash along running trails and/or local streets. I bought two so I can bring a friend along to join me!
