Running the DMV Since 1961
Kelly Fisher
Q: How did you find out about DCRR and when did you join?
I had just recovered from an injury, and I wanted to train for a ten miler. I did a little research and found out that DCRR had a training program so I signed up with my husband. This was back when there was a training program in Pentagon Row.
Q: What are you training for right now?
I’m training for fun! I do hope to run the NJ Half Marathon in April 2021 and then a full marathon in fall 2021.
Q: What is the toughest run or race you’ve ever participated in?
Hands down the Key West Ragnar. I ran the ultra with a group of fellow DCRR members. It was so hot and humid. I was also recovering from the worst cold. Two days after the race I ended up getting a nice ride from the airport to the hospital via an ambulance.
Q: What is the most important lesson running has taught you?
No matter how bad things feel, just keep moving forward and you’ll get closer to the finish.
Q: What is your favorite route in the area?
Hains Point! I love the people watching.

Q: What race day traditions do you have?
I always get a last minute pre-race kiss from my husband.
Q: What is your favorite post-race meal?
Trader Joe’s broccoli and cheese quiche with exactly two hash browns with hot sauce.
Q: What is your proudest running moment?
Finishing Disney’s Inaugural Dopey Challenge. When I first started running, I didn’t think I could ever run a marathon let alone a 5K, 10K, half, and full in four back-to-back days.
Q: What is your favorite running book?
Jeff Galloway’s Book on Running. His run-walk method helped me get over my initial running hesitations. I don’t run-walk anymore, but I still recommend this book for newbies.
Q: What is your life like outside of running?
I live in DC with my husband Joe and 4 cats (Chickadee, Puffin, Hazel-rah, and Secretariat). When I’m not running or working, I’m usually reading Brandon Sanderson or some other fantasy author, gardening, or drawing. I started a new job at DC Water this past summer. Water is life!
