Q: How did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?
I first showed up at TMBC the week after Boston 2018. I had searched for local running clubs online multiple times but had never taken the leap of actually trying one—and I guess seeing all of the gritty, amazing performances at Boston in the freezing rain was the motivation I needed!

Q: What are you training for right now?
I’m signed up for the inaugural DC Half Marathon in September and the Chicago Marathon in October. Fingers crossed that there will be fall races in 2020—but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to “racing” my sister in a half marathon time trial as soon as it’s safe to travel again!

Q: What is the toughest run or race you’ve ever participated in?
DCRR’s own National Capital 20 Miler in 2019. It was so hot, and it was my first 20-mile run back after a broken arm, and (controversial opinion) I don’t love running on the Towpath.

Q: What’s the most important lesson running has taught you?
Anything worth doing takes time. I’m finally learning to embrace the journey, not just the destination! I’m a goal-setter, and non-linear progress can be frustrating, but it’s so rewarding to look back and realize that my recovery pace today was my 5K race pace a few years ago.

Q: What is your favorite route in the area?
Anything that includes Hains Point! Flat, scenic, no traffic . . . what more could you ask for?

Q: What race day traditions do you have?
Kenneth and I have a tradition of getting “PR donuts” anytime either of us sets a new PR (and sometimes even if we don’t)!

Q: What’s your favorite post-race meal?
Other than PR donuts? After longer races, tacos and margaritas are a popular choice.

Q: What’s your proudest running moment?
Dropping 28 minutes from my marathon PR at the Richmond Marathon last year (2019)

Q: What’s your favorite running book?
It’s hard to just pick one, so here are my two favorites: Endure (by Alex Hutchinson), and Let Your Mind Run (Deena Kastor’s memoir).

Q: What’s your life like outside of running?
I work as a mixed methods researcher. Outside of work and running (which I’m lucky enough to get to do with my husband, Kenneth, most days), I enjoy cooking (and eating . . .), so it’s probably a good thing that I also quite a bit of time biking and walking our two dogs.
