Running the DMV Since 1961
Dan Perez-Lopez
Q: When did you begin running and why?
I began running in high school, where I ran spring track. I was attracted to the fact that they can’t cut anyone from the distance track team.
Q: How did you find out about DCRR and when did you join?
I had seen the website for years, but didn’t join until 2019. It’s been so much fun running with Jonny, Big Guy, Jill, and Eunja!
Q: What are you training for right now?
Just finished the MCM
Q: What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?
MCM. It was my first marathon, and it turned out to be a lot of miles!
Q: What is the most important lesson running has taught you?
Everyone is running their own race.
Q: What is your favorite route in the area?
Battery Kemble, for the great views of the Potomac. Cathedral Clintons is also really nice.
Q: What race day traditions do you have?
Overnight oats in the morning
Q: What is your favorite post-race meal?
Pizza (cliché, I know)
Q: What is your proudest running moment?
Finishing the 20 mile training runs in 2020 and 2022. What a kick to run that far, and the C&O is beautiful.
Q: What is your favorite running book and/or movie?
Not a full movie, but I like YouTube videos of an Australian named Beau Miles.
Q: What is your life like outside of running?
Fun. Our 3 kids keep us busy, and my parents and in-laws live nearby, so there are always family events going on. Weekdays I’m a social science analyst at the Food and Nutrition Service, working mostly on the WIC program.
