Q: When did you begin running and why?
My dad ran most mornings. I grew up thinking it was normal to wake up and run! I also played a ton of sport growing up, but I didn’t do my first real race after college. I only signed up because $20 got you access to a full on barbeque and all you could drink Harpoon beer. I was hooked after that—on both racing and post-race beers!
Q: How did you find out about DCRR and when did you join?
I moved from NYC about 5 years ago. I wanted to be more consistent, so I googled local running groups and found DCRR!
Q: What are you training for right now?
By the time this is published, I hope absolutely nothing! I like to take a solid break from training and do more hiking, yoga, and indoor cycling. The first race I train for every year is the Club Challenge, so I’ll start training more formally again in early January.
Q: What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?
I did something called Reach the Beach, which is like the Ragnar race series. I was the only female on the team, and the guys thought it would be “cool” if we did the ultra-distance. It was brutal on the body and mind—30+ miles, 5 loud smelly dudes, 2 days in a van is a bit much. Oh, we also ran out of food and had to drink Ensure since we were in the middle of nowhere. Good times.
Q: What is the most important lesson running has taught you?
Patience, consistency, and humility. Running is hard, and avoiding injury might be even harder.
Q: What is your favorite route in the area?
I love the Iron Triangle (so hard it’s distracting?).
Q: What race day traditions do you have?
My new thing is eating 10 gummy bears about 10 minutes before the start. It’s just fun.
Q: What is your favorite post-race meal?
A burger, fries, and beer from Dominion Wine. And if I can fit it in, one of their big pretzels. I love carbs!
Q: What is your proudest running moment?
Any time I cross the finish line knowing I worked really hard, I’m proud.
Q: What is your favorite running book and/or movie?
I’m going with a podcast recommendation. I have been loving Some Work All Play. If you see me on the W&OD laughing out loud, I’m probably listening to it. It’s both funny and super informative!
Q: What is your life like outside of running?
I spend a lot of time working, but I do love my job—I work in management consulting, primarily focusing on leading large mergers, acquisitions and integrations. Outside of that, I try to spend as much time with my family as I can (they are in DC and Philly area) and hike as many mountains as I can.
