Our New Website

Welcome. If you are a longtime club member, you will likely notice that we have a new website. If you are a newer member, or if you are not yet a member, allow me to announce that we have a new website!

Starting in May 2025, the DC Road Runners Board of Directors began work on a variety of internal administrative matters, this website revision being one of them. We hope that the new site offers visitors new and old an enhanced overview of the club, including its standard race series and training programs, as well as improved ways to receive information about club events, this blog being one of those ways.

If we have done our job, the site should speak for itself. Still, a few explanatory notes are in order.

If we have a new website, why are we on RunSignUp?

One of the major goals of our web redesign project was to create a sustainable way to keep our online presence updated and in compliance with contemporary data privacy laws and expectations. Much of the former DC Road Runners website was built and managed by a dedicated group of club developers who, over time, slowly moved onto other pursuits. As a result, knowledge about how to maintain the site, including membership management, deteriorated over time. We do not want this situation to present itself again a few board transitions from now.

We will be using RunSignup for our ongoing membership management efforts, race registration, and membership communication campaigns. The systems built into RunSignup conform to current data privacy laws, and they are streamlined and efficient, which makes everything from membership renewal to newsletter generation much, much easier.

Simply put, RunSignup is a tool that we are using to support the logistics of the club’s activities. However, it is not a replacement for the club’s rich and meaningful history, all of which has been updated and rebuilt here.

I was a featured runner. Why did my photo disappear?

Every Runner Spotlight profile from 2004 to the present time has been rebuilt. However, many of the photos from the early 2000s (and even 2010s) that were uploaded on the former site were of varying quality and resolution (some of this was true of newer profile photos as well). Most of the photos from 2020 onward have been preserved and uploaded. We were also able to migrate a decent collection of photos from the mid-2010s. In the coming months, once the new site starts cooking and all of the backend search engine optimization settings are in place, we can begin adding photos for some of the older profiles on a gradual basis.

If you have an updated photo that you would like included in your profile, please contact the Director for Membership.

Similarly, please nominate club members to be profiled. The Runner Spotlight feature stretches back to 2004. Let’s keep it going.

I am a running historian. Where are all of the club’s historical race results?

We are actively working to secure the information from the former site so that we can publish it as a club archive. The race results that were archived on the former site ran all the way back to last century. As a result, they were stored in multiple different text formats that could not be imported to the new site in a consistent way. Our goal is to preserve the race results archive as it was published and then to link to it at various places on the new site.

All of this is great! How do I share my excitement?

First and foremost, you should register for the 2026 Club Banquet and Membership Meeting. We will be talking about many of this past year’s improvements, including the website. Come banquet with us.

In addition, you should plan to run some of the remaining 2026 Snowball Series races. You should also volunteer for the Four Courts Four Miler. Our spring 2026 10K Training Program will open in the coming days, and we also have a DCRR Book Club meeting scheduled for March.

We are excited about all of these things. Come be excited with us!
